What I Actually Do All Day
In 10 Seconds: You think I sit around booking flights and sipping sweet tea. I do drink the tea, but the flight booking is maybe five percent of my actual job. Here’s the other ninety-five percent nobody sees.
You’ll Learn:
- What happens between the moment you say “book it” and the moment you land
- If there is a fee, why…
- The three phone calls you never hear about that saved your trip
- How to spot the difference between someone who books travel and someone who manages it
The Google Flights Myth
Every few months somebody tells me, with love, “I could’ve just done that on Google Flights.” And sugar, sometimes you could have. If all you want is a Tuesday flight to Orlando, go right ahead, I will not be offended.
But here’s what Google Flights does not do. It does not know that the resort you’re eyeing had a plumbing issue in building six last month. It does not know that your connection in Charlotte has a fifteen percent on time rate in winter. It does not know that the “ocean view” room category at that Riviera Maya resort actually means ocean view of the parking lot if you squint. I know these things because I either went there myself, or I have a client who did, or I have a supplier rep who told me before it hit the review sites.
What’s Actually Happening Behind the Scenes
When you book with me, here’s the real timeline, not the brochure version.
I’m cross checking your dates against hurricane season, school break pricing spikes, and whether there’s a festival happening that’ll triple your hotel rate without warning. I’m reading the fine print on cancellation policies so you don’t have to, because that fine print is where trips go to die. I’m watching for airline schedule changes on your route for months after you book, which happen more than you’d think and which nobody tells you about unless somebody’s watching.
Jani’s Tip: I had a couple booked on a connecting flight through Chicago that got changed by the airline to a 38-minute layover. Thirty eight minutes. In Chicago. I caught it on a routine schedule check three weeks before departure and got them rebooked with two hours to spare. They never knew there was a problem, because that’s the whole point of having somebody watching.
Then there’s the day of. If your flight gets cancelled, you are not sitting on hold with an airline for four hours while your vacation ticks away. You’re calling me, and I already have three backup options pulled before you finish the sentence.
The Part That’s Hardest to Put a Price On
Here’s the honest part. A lot of what I do is prevention. You never see the trip that would have gone wrong, because it didn’t, because I caught it first. That’s a strange thing to sell, because the best version of my job looks like nothing happened at all.
Quick Reference

One Last Thing…
If you’ve ever wondered what you’re actually paying for when you use an advisor instead of a website, now you know. It’s not the booking. It’s everything happening around the booking that you never have to think about. If you’re ready to have somebody watching your trip instead of just selling it to you, I’d love to help ⬅️
