Airport Day Checklist

Jani’s Five Minute Gut Check

☐ ID matches the name on your ticket, exactly
☐ Boarding pass is on your phone, not just “in my email somewhere”
☐ Phone is charged
☐ Liquids bag is packed and easy to reach
☐ You know your gate, and you know gates lie

If all five are true, you’re in better shape than most of the people around you at the gate. This isn’t a packing list, we’ve already got you covered there. This is everything that matters on the actual day you fly, sorted so you can move through it without reading a single paragraph you don’t need.

Before You Leave the House

☐ ID or passport, name matches your ticket exactly, middle names and all
☐ Checked in online, seat assigned
☐ Boarding pass downloaded to your phone (screenshot it too)
☐ Bags weighed if you’re checking one
☐ Gate and terminal confirmed one more time
☐ Phone charged to 100%
☐ Ride, parking, or drop-off plan locked in
☐ Left yourself real time, not TikTok time

Documents to Grab

☐ Driver’s license (REAL ID compliant) or passport
☐ Boarding pass, digital or printed
☐ TSA PreCheck or Global Entry number attached to your reservation
☐ Hotel and rental car confirmations saved somewhere that doesn’t need WiFi
☐ Visa, vaccination proof, or entry forms if you’re headed international

What’s In Your Carry-On

☐ Quart bag of liquids, packed where you can grab it fast
☐ Laptop and tablet within easy reach, unless you’re in a PreCheck lane
☐ Medications in their original bottles, not buried
☐ Portable chargers and battery packs, these never go in a checked bag
☐ Anything sharp, flammable, or tool shaped, left home or moved to checked

What’s In Your Personal Item

☐ Phone charger and cord
☐ Headphones
☐ Empty water bottle, fill it after security
☐ Snacks that survive a bag, not ones that turn to crumbs
☐ Gum or mints for your ears on descent
☐ Travel size hand sanitizer
☐ A layer, it’s always colder than you packed for
☐ Something to do that doesn’t need WiFi

What to Wear

☐ Shoes you can slip off, not the ones with forty eyelets
☐ Minimal metal, belts and jewelry only slow you down
☐ Comfortable enough to sit still for hours

Everybody Forgets This

☐ Boarding pass saved to your phone’s wallet app in case you lose signal
☐ Screenshots of hotel and rental confirmations, airport WiFi is not a guarantee
☐ A spare charging cable, the one at the gate outlet always disappears
☐ Airline app checked for real time gate changes, not just the big board
☐ Someone back home knows your flight number and arrival time

At the Gate

☐ Bathroom before you board, not after
☐ Boarding group and zone confirmed
☐ Phone on airplane mode, ready before they call your row
☐ One last look at the departure board, gates change more than people think

Common Mistakes (These Cost You Time, Money, or Both)

☐ Packing a power bank in checked luggage, it will get pulled and you may lose the whole bag over it
☐ Showing up with an ID that doesn’t match your ticket name
☐ Forgetting a liquid over 3.4 oz is still sitting in that bag from your last trip
☐ Assuming TSA PreCheck means no line, it means a shorter one
☐ Trusting the departure board over your airline’s app when gates change

Happy travels!

XOXO, Jani ❤️

Screening rules, ID requirements, and liquid limits are set by TSA and can change. Always confirm current requirements at tsa.gov before you fly.

Did you know? If you want the full story behind any of this, from how early to actually leave the house to what TSA PreCheck really buys you, it’s all laid out in the Handbook.
